Rihanna has revealed her long-awaited ninth album is on the way, however, she claims the style will be so far from what many expect.
Rihanna, 37, for nearly a decade, has not released a new album since her chart-topping Anti album in 2016.
Rather, she’s been focused on her Fenty Beauty brand as well as being committed to her duties as a wife and mother.
Nonetheless, the superstar has finally confirmed that new music is on the way, and opened up on finding the type of songs she wants to put out there after working in the studio “the whole eight years”.
“I just cracked the code on what I really want to do for my next body of work. I am actually feeling really good about this. I know I kept saying this over the years,” Rihanna told Harper’s Bazaar.
The Fenty mogul added that the album will not be a mainstream project, stating that “it’s not going to be anything that anybody expects. And it’s not going to be commercial or radio digestible.”
Rihanna also played down rumors of the past years that suggested her new album would consist of a reggae-like style and also went on to reveal the reason it took so long to drop a new LP.

“After a while, I looked at it, and I was like, this much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to count. It has to matter,” she said.
“I have to show [the fans] it was worth in the wait. I cannot put up anything mediocre. After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more.”
Rihanna further stated that aging has been “s***” but also a “blessing” as she focuses on the basics and aims to “live in the moment”.
Rihanna’s legendary career began in 2003, and after two decades, she’s solidified her place among the best on the planet and has achieved nine UK number-one singles and four UK number-one albums.
