Abdul Haqq, widely known as Big Durk, has addressed the indictment of his son, celebrated Chicago rapper Lil Durk, in an emotional and thought-provoking Instagram video.

His remarks have sparked widespread conversation about justice, community reform, and the challenges public figures face advocating for change.

In the video, Haqq refrained from discussing the details of the legal charges against his son, instead focusing on broader issues surrounding the indictment’s timing. He thanked Lil Durk’s supporters and emphasized his son’s commitment to promoting peace and positive change in Chicago and beyond.

Haqq raised concerns about what he sees as a troubling pattern in the legal system, suggesting that the indictment’s timing is suspicious. He pointed out that it came shortly after Lil Durk participated in a major Muslim conference calling for peace in Chicago.

Additionally, the rapper recently hosted a benefit concert to raise awareness about violence in the city, featuring a digital vigil honoring lives lost to gun violence. These efforts, Haqq suggested, might have drawn unwarranted scrutiny.

He highlighted what he believes is a systemic issue, where individuals working to improve their communities become targets of legal action. Haqq underscored the profitability of mass incarceration and suggested that the justice system benefits from keeping those striving for reform under surveillance or behind bars.

Watch the video below:

Haqq’s reflections carry significant weight, given his own experiences with the justice system. In 1994, he was sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in a cocaine ring and spent 25 years behind bars. Since his release, Haqq has become a vocal advocate for change, supporting his son’s career and community-focused initiatives.
