Lil Wayne has sparked intrigue with a cryptic message about a special project he’s working on, leaving fans in suspense as he confirmed he won’t be attending the Super Bowl.
In a video shared on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, the famous American rapper hinted at his absence from the big event while teasing an exciting reveal set for Thursday, February 6.
“Y’all know I’m not going to be there this week, which means I guess there’s a seat to fill,” the 42-year-old rapper said. “Shout out to New Orleans, but I’ve been working on something very special. I got something exciting coming for you Thursday, the 6th. Until then… I’m chillin’.”

Wayne’s cryptic tease has fans buzzing with anticipation, speculating whether his upcoming surprise is music-related or something entirely unexpected.
His absence from the Super Bowl has been a hot topic recently. Addressing the matter, he revealed that he had spoken with Kendrick Lamar, who was announced as this year’s halftime headliner.
“For whatever reason, I believe it’s over my head. I don’t know why, period,” Wayne told Skip Bayless in December 2024. “Obviously, I believe that it’s perfect…I do not know why.”
Despite not being selected, Wayne harbors no hard feelings. “I’ve spoken to [Kendrick], and I wish him all the best. I told him he better kill it,” he added.
Still, Wayne remains determined to reach a point where his presence at such events is indisputable. “The person I am? I straight look at it like, ‘You ain’t there, you gotta get there.’ There’s things I can’t control. I want to get to the point where I’m undeniable. I want them to walk in there, have 10 other choices, and whoever’s in charge says, ‘No, you have to go with him!’”
The 2025 Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, with Kendrick Lamar headlining the halftime show. Just days ago, SZA was announced as a guest performer for the event.
