Lil Wayne Receives The Key To The City Of New Orleans

New Orleans has honored one of its sons, hip-hop icon, Lil Wayne.

This took place at the annual Lil Weezyana Fest 2024, recognizing his influence on music and dedication to the city.

Lil Wayne, the most acclaimed rapper to emerge from New Orleans, received a key to the city from Mayor LaToya Cantrell and Percy “Master P” Miller.

The festival was founded by Lil Wayne in 2015 on the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

It was established as a way for the artist to give back to New Orleans.

Over the years, it has evolved into a major cultural event that highlights the city’s vibrant music scene and community spirit.

Mayor LaToya Cantrel honored him “for his career achievements and cultural and community contributions,” said a news release from the mayor’s office.

Wayne helped build Cash Money Records into a national powerhouse in the 1990s via his million-selling solo albums and his albums with the all-star Hot Boys quartet, which also included Juvenile, B.G., and Turk.

Percy “Master P” Miller, the founder of the rival No Limit Records, another hugely successful New Orleans rap label, also gave Wayne a “Career Achievement Award” during Saturday’s show, while the mayor awarded Wayne a Key to the City.

The annual event generally features surprise guests who join Wayne onstage.

This year’s Lil WeezyAna Fest includes a reunion of the Hot Boys that has been years in the making.

Tickets sold out quickly, even after WeezyAna Fest moved from its traditional home in Champions Square to the much larger Smoothie King Center.
