Authorities in Maryland have brought murder charges against a 20-year-old man who allegedly killed a 73-year-old woman after running over her with a forklift he had stolen. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect, identified as Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, allegedly forced his way into a Lowe’s Home Improvement store in the wee hours of Sunday and stole a forklift, CBS News reported.
Authorities in a press release also said Brown rammed the stolen forklift through the store’s rear gates before driving it to the parking lot of a Home Depot store on Jefferson Farm Place. He is said to have rammed a vehicle in the parking lot, causing a woman who was sleeping inside the car to get out and run away.
The suspect, however, pursued the victim and fatally ran over her with the forklift before stealing her car and fleeing the scene, authorities said. Officers, who later went to the Lowe’s store to investigate the alleged burglary, found the stolen forklift at the Home Depot parking lot. They also found the deceased victim, identified as Gloristine Pinkney, under the forklift.
Authorities eventually located Brown and arrested him later that day. Pinkney’s vehicle was also retrieved around the suspect’s residence, the press release stated, adding that the suspect and the victim did not know each other.
Brown faces a slew of charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault, theft, and other related charges. Authorities are holding him at the Charles County Detention Center without bond.
The motive behind the fatal incident was, however, not stated. Authorities are yet to provide information on why the deceased victim was sleeping in her car.
