Ghanaian man Kwaku Boakye Gyamfi has been praised for graduating from the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as one of the youngest medical doctors in Ghana.

Born in 2001 to a father who is a Business and Financial Advisor and a mother who works as a caterer, Gyamfi’s journey to becoming a medical doctor started at a very young age. At just five years old, he began his primary education at Danem Royal Montessori School in Ghana’s capital Accra, and eventually completed his basic education in 2014 when he was 13.

That same year, 2014, he gained admission to Prempeh College Senior High School in Ghana’s Ashanti region for his secondary education. Interestingly, he completed his secondary education at just 16, in 2017. He subsequently went through what has been described as a “rigorous” interview process before earning admission to the UCC School of Medical Sciences in 2017 while he was still 16.

On September 7, 2023, Gyamfi graduated from the UCC School of Medical Sciences at the age of 22 after a six-year medical educational journey. The second child and the only son among four siblings, Gyamfi has made his parents, friends and other relatives proud by becoming one of the youngest medical doctors in the country. Social media was wowed by his graduation photos, with many wondering how a young person like him could be graduating as a medical doctor.

But Gyamfi is not the only Ghanaian to have achieved this amazing feat. Two years ago, Erica Maame Abena Pomaa Ntiamoah Mensah also became one of the youngest medical doctors in the West African country at age 21 after successfully completing her medical program at the Accra College of Medicine.

Before Mensah was Vanessa Aseye Mensah-Kabu, who became the youngest medical doctor for her batch after being inducted in Ghana at age 22.
