Njideka Akunyili Crosby
Nigerian-born Njideka Akunyili Crosby is an award-winning visual artist, who has produced works valued in millions of dollars at auction. Two of her works: Drown and The Beautyful Ones – were sold for U.S.$900,000 and $3 million respectively.
Interestingly, one of her Artworks is at Los Angeles’ Museum of contemporary Art free of charge. She was the second person to be chosen to create a mural on the walls of the museum itself, which was visible from Grand Avenue’s sidewalk, according to TIME.
Crosby moved to the U.S. from Nigeria in her teens and her works are known to fuse both countries. “I’m really looking at how Nigeria and the U.S. are complex hybrid spaces,” she told Time.
