During a recent interview with Fox Sports Radio, legendary boxer Mike Tyson revealed that he “blanked out” after the first round of his fight with Jake Paul and did not really remember the hugely-attended bout “that much.”
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Paul, 27, was unanimously declared the winner after their eight-round bout. ESPN also reported that the fight, which took place in Arlington, Texas, broke the bank as it raked in $18.1 million at the gate. More than 108 million viewers also streamed the live fight on Netflix. But eyebrows were raised over the outcome of the fight because of Tyson’s subpar performance.
“I don’t remember the fight that much, I kind of blanked out. I haven’t watched the fight back,” Tyson said, per the Daily Mail. “You know what I remember… coming back from the first round and Jake was doing some sort of bow… that’s the last thing I remember.”
He continued: “I wasn’t tired, I wasn’t sweaty. I went to the house we were staying in, I left the house with my wife and kids, went to the after-party then went back.”
In the wake of the fight, Tyson also took to X to provide more details on the ulcer flare-up he suffered that caused the event to be delayed.
“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,” the former word heavyweight champion wrote. “I’m grateful for [Friday] night and have no regrets about getting in the ring one last time. I almost died in June; I had eight blood transfusions. I lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”
He added: “To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish eight rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for.”
Tyson also touched on his performance during a pop-up event in Miami. “Magically. It just happened so quick. Eight round were over fast. I wasn’t tired. I wasn’t sweating. I didn’t understand that,” he explained.
