Disney is at it again as Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi is set to play Tinker Bell in the famous “Peter Pan” fairytale live-action remake. There were mixed reactions to Disney casting Halle Bailey as Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Some wondered why their childhood memory of a Caucasian mermaid should be played by a Black person while others were for the change.

On Friday, budding young actress Shahidi announced her “Tinker Bell” role on Instagram after she captioned her photo; “lettssssgooooo” with “#Tinkerbell” and fairy emojis.

This makes Shahidi the first Black person to play Tinker Bell in the live-action movie “Peter Pan and Wendy”. She will star in a remake of the original animated movie from 1953 which is to date the most successful remake of the J.M. Barrie novel about our favorite boy who wouldn’t age and the children of Neverland, Deadline reported on Friday.

The breakout star of ABC’s Black-ish also just recently signed an overall deal with ABC Studios which will house her own production company.

There is no “Peter Pan” without a “Captain Hook” and Hook will be played by Jude Law. The title characters will also be played by Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, who will play Peter and Wendy, respectively.

Here are some mixed reactions from Twitter about the news.
