Nigerian 51st Independence Day Parade

Saturday, October 8th, marked the biggest celebration for Nigerians worldwide as many gathered in  New York City to celebrate the country's 51st Independence Day. The three-day independence day celebration ended with a parade from 54th street to 44th street in Manhattan.

Whether is was the sound of the dancers beating their feet to the talking drums, the old mingling with the young, or the fuji singers reverberating their voices to be heard, there is no doubt this was a congregation of a people proud of their culture and heritage.

It  was a joyous day as the scent of suya, akara, puff-puff and other delicacies wafted through the air and as individuals, sharing hugs and laughters, reunited  with each other. Congratulations and happy birthday Nigeria!
