Golden State Warriors superstar and future Hall of Famer Steph Curry is yet to retire from playing professional basketball, but he has already taken up an administrative role at his alma mater Davidson College.

Davidson officials told ESPN that Curry will serve as an assistant general manager for its basketball programs. The 36-year-old taking up the role now makes him the first active player in U.S. major professional sports to land an administrative job with an NCAA team.

Curry as the assistant general manager for basketball programs will use the experience gained from his college and professional career to give insight to Davidson’s men’s and women’s teams.

Curry and general manager Austin Buntz will collaborate as he discharges his duties. Buntz was previously part of the Under Armour global sports marketing team, while Curry has a long-term deal with the American sportswear company

“The Davidson experience is top notch,” Curry said in a statement. “My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high character student athletes to have that same experience.”

Davidson also announced that an eight-figure fund for its men’s and women’s teams will be set up by Curry as well as his wife Ayesha Curry, ESPN reported. The other notable individuals involved in the setting up of the fund include Davidson alumni Don, Matt, and Erica Berman.

Curry was a standout player for the Davidson Wildcats basketball team from 2006 to 2009. During his second year with the Wildcats, the 36-year-old wrote his name in the NCAA’s history books by making the most 3-pointers in one season. He was also twice named the conference player of the year before the Golden State Warriors eventually drafted him with the seventh overall pick in 2009.

Curry has only played for the Warriors in his NBA career and has won four championships with the franchise. He also has two Most Valuable Player awards under his belt.

In 2022, Curry ultimately earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology after going back to Davidson to complete his tertiary education. The university has also inducted him into its Hall of Fame.
