Billionaire business mogul Oprah Winfrey has denied claims that she was paid $1 million to host a town hall event for Kamala Harris during her presidential campaign. The 70-year-old’s response comes after Harris lost the presidential election to her Republican rival Donald Trump.
Oprah responded to the claims when TMZ asked her about it. She told the celebrity and entertainment news outlet that those claims were “not true” and she “was paid nothing — ever.”
The Washington Examiner had claimed in a report that Harpo Productions, which is Oprah’s company, was paid to organize the event for Vice President Harris in September.
Celebrities including Meryl Streep, Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Julia Roberts, and Tracee Ellis Ross hopped on Zoom to make appearances during the event.
Despite the support from several celebrities and public figures during her campaign, the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee suffered a landslide loss to Trump.
Harris, who has since conceded, was expected to appear at Howard University in Washington DC election night but she canceled the event after results that started trickling in showed Trump winning.
She has since called Trump to congratulate him on his win but told her supporters that the fight is far from over. “The outcome of the election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” she said in a concession speech to a crowd of students and supporters at Howard University in Washington, DC, her alma mater.
“Hear me when I say the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”
