Alice Walker is famed for coining the term ‘womanism’ – feminism for women of colour. But equally celebrated is her achievements in poetry.

Identifying as a feminist of colour, Walker brought to the fore, the necessity of speaking about women’s rights in the context of the black woman’s experiences.
