The United States became the first country Tuesday to win 3,000 total Olympic medals following its latest wins at the 2024 Paris Games. Ahead of this year’s games, the U.S. had 2,975 medals from previous summer and winter Olympics, as stated by the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage.
On Tuesday, the U.S. surpassed this figure after earning more than 25 medals. Many of this year’s medals for the U.S. have come from swimming events. So far, the U.S. has taken home 15 swimming medals.
Interestingly, Team USA’s men’s gymnasts earned their first Olympic medal in the team event in 16 years, grabbing a bronze on Monday. The women’s team led by Simone Biles earned gold in the team competition on Tuesday.
The U.S. is leading the medal standings with host France second as of Tuesday. More American winners are expected to join the list before the games end on August 11.
