Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes, is facing up to 10 years in prison after he was recently arrested for violating the terms of his probation.

Per TMZ, Mahomes Sr., 55, could also miss the Super Bowl weekend, as he’s being held without bond until his next court hearing in March. Prosecutors are additionally pushing for the former MLB star to be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Mahomes Sr., who was arrested on Tuesday and booked into Smith County Jail, was sentenced to five years of probation after he entered a guilty plea to his DWI case in 2024. Authorities, however, allege that he drank alcohol, thus violating the terms of his probation. His probation violation report claims that on January 1, the reading on Mahomes Sr.’s SCRAM alcohol ankle monitor was high.

Mahomes Sr.’s probation officer became aware of his alleged probation violation when his alcohol-monitoring ankle device, on January 1, recorded a high reading.

Besides that, Mahomes Sr. was also supposed to do community service for 3 hours each month. But the 55-year-old did not do that for multiple months, authorities claim.

His probation violation report also said that on January 5 and January 9, Mahomes Sr. provided urine tests, and the results for both indicated there was no alcohol in the fluids, TMZ reported.

It now rests on a judge to determine if there should be a revocation of Mahomes’ probation. If that is the case, Mahomes could serve time in prison. The 55-year-old’s next court date is scheduled for March 9.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Mahomes Sr. has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on three separate occasions, with his first being in South Dakota in 2008.

In 2018, the 55-year-old was arrested and charged with the same offense, Smith County court records showed. Mahomes Sr. was ultimately handed a 40-day jail sentence to be served on weekends, NBC News reported.

Mahomes Sr.’s son and the Kansas City Chiefs were just a few days away from facing the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas when the 55-year-old was arrested. Mahomes eventually led the Chiefs to clinch their third Super Bowl title.

Just like his son, Mahomes Sr. was also an athlete – though his career path was different, as he played professional baseball. The 55-year-old, who was a pitcher, played for Major League Baseball teams including the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
