Year of Return opportunities
In response to the African Union for member states to engage with their diaspora in other to encourage return and attract investment, several countries have drafted diaspora engagement policies and others have also set up Diaspora Bureau Office to directly engage their diaspora. Last year, the Diaspora Affairs Bureau in Ghana organized the “Year of Return” to mark the 400 years since the arrival of enslaved Africans in the USA. The government subsequently launched the “Beyond the Return” initiative to build on and consolidate the Year of Return initiative. “Beyond the Return” initiative is to engage Africans in the diaspora and all persons of
African descent more positively in areas such as trade and investment co-operation, and skills and knowledge development. The initiative seeks to make Africa the place of investment, progress and prosperity for investors. It also seeks to make the acquisition of visas and citizenship easy for members of the diaspora and also adopt strategies for integrating them successfully into the Ghanaian society.
