Dr. Frank Mugisha – Uganda

Dr. Mugisha is a Ugandan LGBTQ activist, founder of icebreakers Uganda, and director of Sexual Minorities in Uganda (SMUG).  Though he didn’t face hatred in his native land when he revealed he was gay, he has seen the effects of disclosing such sensitive information; one of his friends and fellow activist David Kato was beaten to death after his name appeared in a story titled “top 200 gays in Uganda.”

Dr. Mugisha actively raises awareness of gender identity and homosexuality by using his platform as director of SMUG.
