Barbados star, Rihanna --- NME.com

As Barbados decides on a government to handle its affairs for the next five years in its general election on Thursday, musician, Rihanna has thrown her weight behind opposition leader, Mia Mottley.

The Barbadian superstar made her choice for the political leader of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) in a reply to a post by her friend, Leandra Goodbridge on Instagram.

Goodbridge earlier this week reposted a video of Mottley, with the caption:

“Watching my next prime minister all day on @bajantube stories!!!”

Within an hour and a half, Rihanna commented: “Yeeeeeeeeessssssssssssss she deserves it!!!!!”

The post generated a lot of talk on social media, and Mottley subsequently posted a video on Instagram to thank Rihanna and her friend for their endorsement.

We need everyone to tag @badgalriri so she can see!

Mottley’s party, the BLP is hoping to unseat the incumbent Democratic Labour Party in today’s election.

If she succeeds, she will become the country’s first female prime minister.

Five other parties and other independent candidates are vying for the same seat.
