November 1 seems to be a historic day in African-American print history. This date saw the first issues of three of some of the most popular African-American magazines, two of which are still in operation being released.
With racism and segregation being very rampant during those times, these black-owned publications served as the voice of the African-American people. The topics they touched on centred around civil rights, the plights of African-Americans, culture, lifestyle, success stories, among others.
