Shonda Rhimes, a television producer, screenwriter, and founder of the production company Shondaland, recently joined Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s tech-infused golf league, TGL as she became a part owner of Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), TGL’s first team.

“I’m beyond excited to announce my involvement as the newest owner of Los Angeles Golf Club, the inaugural team in the @tglgolf league,” Rhimes noted in an Instagram post. “I can’t wait to bring my passion for golf to this incredible venture.”

“Joining this team is an honor and, as someone who believes in the power of storytelling and community, I’m eager to see how we can elevate the game together. Let’s tee off on this new journey. We are LAGC,” she said.

TGL, which will launch in January 2025, will see 18 players who will compete in a series of 18-hole matches. Rhimes joins the likes of Serena and Venus Williams, Alexis Ohanian Sr., and Antetokounmpo brothers Giannis, Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex as fellow owners of TGL’s first team, the Los Angeles Golf Club owners.

Rhimes is a known figure behind the long-running television medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, on ABC and became its head writer and executive producer. She also became the executive producer of Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice, Scandal, Off the Map, How to Get Away with Murder, and The Catch.

According to Forbes, Grey’s Anatomy brought in $2 billion over the years to ABC’s parent company, Disney. In 2017, she quit traditional TV for Netflix, a move many analysts described as “unprecedented.”

She signed a five-year pact with the streaming giant for at least $100 million and renewed in 2021, according to Forbes. She created hit series like “Bridgerton” and its spin-off, “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” as well as “Inventing Anna” after joining Netflix.

The 54-year-old and mother of three debuted on the Forbes list of self-made richest women with a net worth of $250 million in 2023.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Rhimes attended Dartmouth College where she majored in English and film studies and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1991. She spent more time directing and performing in student productions while she wrote fiction and articles for the college newspaper.

She moved to San Francisco and worked in advertising before moving to Los Angeles where she studied screenwriting at the University of Southern California and obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Cinematic Arts.
