Arguin

Located off the Western Coast of Mauritania, the Bay of Arguin as it is fondly called is an island that has been under the ownership of several rulers. It began with the Portuguese in 1443, then the Dutch took over before the English and French.

It is known for the death of 350 people who lost their lives as they journeyed to Senegal in 1816.
