Melvin Wright, Jr., 43, has been sentenced to nine to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder and related charges. The incident occurred on November 28, 2023, at an Ohio strip club where Wright shot a stranger in the face after the man refused to share his potato chips.
The Summit County Prosecutor’s Office said Wright was sentenced on Monday, the New York Post reported.
“Summit County is safer without Melvin Wright on our streets,” Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said. “Senseless violence has no place in Akron, and I am grateful that the survivor of this crime is continuing his courageous recovery.”
The 31-year-old man was shot in the face by Wright at Lusty Adventure strip club in Akron, Ohio, after the man refused to share his potato chips.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when Wright, 43, approached the victim, whom he did not know, and asked for some chips. When the victim declined, Wright decided to retaliate by shooting him.
The snack-loving fanatic followed his victim to his car and shot him in the face, officials said.
Despite the injury, the victim managed to drive himself to Summa Health Akron City Hospital and survived after six days of treatment.
Wright was arrested the next day while boarding a Metro bus and the police also found a handgun in his possession.
He pleaded guilty to attempted murder, having weapons while under disability, and illegal possession of a firearm.
In addition to his nine to twelve-year prison sentence, Wright must register as a violent offender annually for ten years after his release.
