Stephen A. Smith is facing backlash on social media after stating that he would divorce Serena Williams if he were her husband for her appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Serena took to the stage during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl 2025 halftime show performance and her actions have sparked questions because of her past relationship with Drake in 2011.
The tennis legend was spotted during Lamar’s performance of his historic “Not Like Us,” putting on some dance moves while Lamar rapped the hit diss track aimed at Drake.

The Canadian rapper released a song called “Too Good” about Williams five years later in which he repeats the lyric, “I’m too good to you.”
Smith left his thoughts on her appearance and support for Kendrick against Drake during the Super Bowl halftime show, revealing her actions were uncalled for, and that he would divorce her if they were married.
“If I’m married and my wife is going to join in trolling her ex, go back to his ass, ’cause clearly you don’t belong with me,” Smith said Monday on ESPN’s “First Take.”
“What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye.”
“If you were with Serena Williams, you’re going to be a kept man anyways,” co-host Ryan Clark said in response to Smith. “Don’t start that.”

Williams stayed away from the noise surrounding her breakup with Drake years ago and later married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, who she shares two daughters with.
Fans on social media have hit back at Smith’s remarks, questioning his line of comments as a man who has never tied the knot trying to criticize the mother of a family.
“Good thing Stephen A. Smith isn’t married to her”, one user said on X.
“Nigga ain’t even been engaged but yappin”, another wrote. “He is unmarried and speaking to one of our greatest female athletes ever like that. Show some respect, that’s a married woman for eight years now”, said a third.
A fourth said: “He’d divorce someone who was sticking up for him? Some men deserve less.”
Another one of Drake’s partners from the past, SZA also performed though she did not take a direct jab at Drizzy like Kendrick Lamar and Serena Williams.
Drake fans have stood behind him, stating that the act from Serena Williams and Lamar will still not get them anywhere near Drizzy’s level.
Despite all the Super Bowl halftime show performance talks, Drake has yet to respond publicly on the matter.
