The Hissing Tree: This tree is far more common in the grasslands of Zimbabwe and also very relevant to the traditional Shona religion. Aside from the leaves’ specific spiritual importance, the roots and bark of the hissing tree are used for treatment of pneumonia and ear infections. The roots are soaked in cold water for an hour and thence poured into the infected ears in drips and drabs four times a day for two weeks with a clean cupped leaf.
