During a recent appearance on Sherri, veteran singer and actress Tamar Braxton, 48, denied rumors that she had an affair with her sister Toni Braxton’s husband, Birdman.
Per PEOPLE, Birdman, born Bryan Christopher Williams, and Tamar’s sister Toni, 58, have been married for over a year.
The Love and War singer addressed the rumor when host Sherri Shepherd recalled when Tamar’s sister Towanda accused her of hooking up with one of Toni’s former partners during an episode of The Braxtons. Fans ultimately speculated that the individual in question was Birdman.
“Where did that rumor come from? That is preposterous,” Tamar said. “The truth is I introduced Toni to her husband. Bryan and I were friends first, like, real platonic friends.”
Tamar also revealed that Birdman, 56, was dating one of her friends “a long time ago.” “When they broke up, Bryan and I became really good friends because [he] and [Ronald Jay ‘Slim’ Williams] wanted to sign me to Cash Money Records. This was a long time ago,” she added.
“And so then he started speaking to me about my sister,” Tamar continued. She added: “So when Toni got a divorce [from ex-husband Keri Lewis in 2016], he was serious about her and, you know, made his way in.”
Tamar, in the interview, also stated that she felt “upset” because of the rumors about her affair with Birdman. “That’s my brother. Now, he’s my brother-in-law,” she emphasized.
Tamar further touched on attending a Verzuz battle with Birdman, explaining that she was with the rapper and music executive because Toni couldn’t make it, PEOPLE reported.
Besides addressing the rumors, Tamar spoke about her sisters and their current relationship.
“We’re in a healthy space. I think that everyone has taken accountability for their part in what happened, publicly and privately,” she disclosed. “And I think now it’s time for healing, whatever that looks like.”
Toni and Birdman were longtime friends before they became romantically involved in 2016. In February 2018, Toni announced they were engaged before they separated not too long after.
Though the couple eventually reconciled, Toni filed for divorce two weeks after they tied the knot, TMZ reported. The He Wasn’t Man Enough singer, in court documents, stated that they separated on August 20, 2024. That was just two days after they married.
