On Tuesday’s episode of her No Filter With Naomi show on YouTube, seasoned supermodel Naomi Campbell revealed she played music from reggae icon Bob Marley during the recent birth of her daughter.
The 50-year-old made the revelation during a sit-down with DJ D-Nice of “Club Quarantine fame”, PEOPLE reported. In their conversation, the two touched on music and the power it possesses – with Campbell saying she was playing music from the reggae legend as she welcomed her first daughter.
“In one of my most special moments, you know, I just became a mum, I had Bob Marley playing,” she said. “I mean, that’s my roots! You know, that’s my roots.”
Responding to Campbell’s comments, DJ D-Nice reflected on his famous “Club Quarantine” Instagram show during lockdown and a particular moment he exclusively played music from Bob Marley.
“I did a lot of work with the Marley family. You know, we’ve had a lot of things happen on Club Quarantine! One day I started playing Bob Marley, and I was only playing Bob Marley, and all of the sudden Ziggy was in there, and Rohan was in there, and Damian Marley was in there,” he said in reference to the reggae legend’s children joining the live stream. “It was just mind blowing to me, that people just find ways to come and hear the music.”
After the interview, however, Campbell announced she was possibly going to take a break from the show. “This could be my last show, and taking a little break,” she said. “Or this may not be.”
The British-Jamaican supermodel announced the birth of her first child in an Instagram post on May 18. “A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother,” she wrote as she shared a picture of her hand holding the baby’s feet. “So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love.”
The news came just a few days ahead of her birthday on May 22. Following the announcement, a source told PEOPLE the 50-year-old supermodel has always wanted to be a mother.
“She’s wanted a baby for a long time, more than 10 years,” the source told the news outlet. “And anyone who’s surprised Naomi is having a baby on her own, her own way, and on her own timetable doesn’t know Naomi Campbell,” the source added. “Hasn’t she redefined everything she’s ever touched?”
