Did you know that there are over 700 islands of which 13 are independent island countries making up the Caribbean? The islands are not one homogenous entity though they have some similarities.

The Caribbean has a distinct cultural identity and intriguing history infused with different elements from the British, West Indies, Africa and some indigenous practices peculiar to the islanders as well.

The Caribbean is a favorite vacation destination and many people go on vacation for various reasons. Some travel for pure leisure, others to distress while others are just adventurous.

Well-known islands like Jamaica, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic usually make it to the top of the list of favorite vacation destinations in the Caribbean. However, there is more to the Caribbean than being a vacation destination. It has given the world rum and reggae, and for that we are grateful. Here are other things the Caribbean has blessed the world with.
