Delaware
In May 2018, Delaware became the first American state to ban child marriage. Democratic Gov. John Carney signed a bill to end the practice that allowed minors in that state to get married at any age as long as they obtained a judge’s approval.
In the state, about 200 minors were married between 2000 and 2011, according to state health data, with 90 per cent of them being girls.
