These black artists hit stardom while walking and performing barefoot

Michael Franti

He is an American musician, poet, spoken word artist and singer-songwriter.

In 2000, Franti decided to go barefoot after traveling around the world and seeing children who had no shoes. What started out as a three-day shoe-off to raise awareness for the problem turned into a 16-year crusade where Franti has rarely worn shoes, except for throwing on a pair of flip-flops to board an aeroplane or be served in a restaurant. Attendees of his Red Rocks show are encouraged to bring second-hand shoes to help those children and adults around the world without shoes.
