With an estimated population of 10,967 people and 3,148 households, Mitchellville is an unincorporated and census-designated area in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The estate was named after John Mitchell, who owned the Essington Hall plantation that encompassed much of the area.

Mitchellville is home to an upper-middle-class African-American community, with at least 85.4 percent of its population being black. It has a median household income of $109,184. Only 1.9 percent of residents living in this community are below the poverty line.
