Sarafina! – 1992
As a popular joke, many people are made to sing the most popular song from this African classic or shout its title anytime they mention it. The South African movie, which featured Whoopi Goldberg, is a musical that follows the lives of Sarafina and other brave young students struggling for freedom during apartheid.
The story is inspired by the Soweto Uprising of 1976, where black students protested the implementation of Afrikaans as the official language in schools.
