Kwame Nyong’o

He is a leading name in Kenyan’s animation industry, after having to go to art school in California to learn the trade. Since then, the Kenyan art director, animator and illustrator has been an advocate for the promotion of arts and animation in Africa, teaching animation in various institutions in Nairobi while freelancing and serving clients in not only Kenya but the United States and the rest of the world.

Some of his production initiatives include Disney’s “Tinga Tinga Tales” TV series and UNESCO’s “Africa Animated!” project, in which he served as an animation trainer and production coordinator.

He has also written and illustrated children’s books that celebrate Africa’s positive stories and these include: “A Tasty Maandazi”, “I Love Ugali and Sukuma Wiki” and most recently “The Yummiest Githeri”.

Kwame has also created the short animated film “The Legend of Ngong Hills” which “explores the possibilities of animating African folk tales and fantasy.” Working in advertising at Ogilvy Africa, Kwame was part of the team that created the “The World’s Most Eligible Bachelor” campaign which won several awards at the 2017 and 2018 Cannes Lions Festival.
