Top 5 African musicians who double as activists

Yvonne Chaka Chaka

Born Yvonne Machaka, she is a South African world-renowned singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Machaka is the voice featured on “Umqombothi,” “Motherland,” and “Thank You Mr Dj.”  Machaka is a Goodwill Ambassador for the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, founded The Princess of Africa Foundation, serves as ambassador for Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Campaign which advances global awareness of HIV/AIDS, serves as ambassador to the University of South Africa (UNISA), City of Johannesburg Tourism, and South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province Tourism, and has taught reading in South African townships.
