A few days ago, Waffle House employee Yadira Ramez, who goes by the handle @yadirajramirez, went viral when she confessed that she had been fired for taking part in Latto’s popular “Brokey” Challenge while on the job.
Rapper Latto started a $10K “Brokey” challenge after some of her fans took offense at the lyrics of her viral hit song “Brokey”.
The 25-year-old rapper wrote on X, “I hate that y’all think I was calling hard workers brokeys. So I got $10k for whoever makes the best video at their job to brokey & I’ll fly u out to be in the music video…no mo waiting til ur bday to go outta town. Tag me & hashtag #Brokey so I can see them all.”
Unluckily, out of all the participants in the challenge, Ramirez received the worst blow and lost her job after she and her coworkers made a video for the “Brokey” challenge while working their shift.
Only a day after the video went viral, she informed her fans that, despite her six years of working, she had been dismissed and added to the EFR list, meaning she would never be allowed back.
Her circumstance sparked an internet debate. Some comments read, “She shouldn’t have made the video at work if latto said jump off a bridge I guess a lot of you would,” while others comforted her saying, “That’s wild, no lie that video was probably the most sane, respectable, unchaotic thing I’ve ever seen take place at Waffle House. You almost brought back some type of wholesomeness to the place.”
Others, however, were still intrigued as to whether she was the only one dismissed considering there were other people on the video.
So, she explained in an update, “Our company policy doesnt say we’re not allowed to have our phones, just says don’t bash and talk bad about the company and we didn’t… I also want to say that the person you see in the video isn’t the manager; he’s the manager trainee. While there was a manager there, there was two managers there. They knew what was going on, and they said they didn’t wanna have nothing to do with it, Let’s keep that in mind, let’s keep in mind that the manager who fired me, is the same manager that was there when we were recording it.”
“And I also want to say that I was the only one to get fired, um… No one else got fired, no one’s getting ranged up… from what I’ve been told, they are not getting ranged up… and that’s it. Thank you guys for liking the video…”
Fortunately, though, Ramirez later uploaded another video in which she and Latto are seen passing a pile of cash marked “10,000” before breaking into a twerk.
Her followers congratulated her for winning. One commented, “Well deserved and congratulations,” while another stated, “Good worker got fired got paid then linked up with a superstar this is prime example of The Power Of Social Media.”
Still one jabbed at the restaurant chain, writing, “I’ll go to that same Waffle House and spend $100 with no tip just bc.”
