In a latest move to help combat prevailing droughts in some parts of the country, the Kenyan government has received delivery of a donation of some 30,000 bags of rice from China, but citizens are not being pleased with the decision.
Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Devolution and ASALs, Eugene Wamalwa, made the announcement in a tweet on his page, stating, “Just received a donation of 30,000 bags Of rice from The People’s Republic of China to compliment GOK relief food distribution in 23 drought affected Counties.”
While this was supposed to be good news, the public has instead poured onto social media to express their rejection of the gesture, stating reasons such as the need for the country to be independent of China’s support, and the failure of the government to provide for its own people, among others.
Half of Kenya’s 47 counties is currently battling with drought which has led to rising food insecurity and the need for government intervention.

and you are seriously happy putting this post up? How many years after independence again?

Rice donations from China? Probably some plastics. Back to @EugeneLWamalwa, you people have failed this nation.
— Whispers (@WhispersOti) August 28, 2019
This should not be happening over 50 years after independence. Black Africans we have failed ourselves

What happened to the Galana Kulalu project? Now you are feeding your fellow Kenyans on “plastic” rice

It will disappear into oblivious obscurity.

A whole CS without an iota of shame glorifying relief FOOD from china. You’re embarrassing the very able and hard working citizens you serve. This tweet is an insult to the GOK big 4 agenda. Do these people ever think?? (Thinking out loud) smh! ??

Malaysia was the same level in terms of GDP and development in the 60’s, compare, most govt projects just turn out to be white elephants because of corrupt greedy politicians/public servants..why did galana kulalu fail after spending ksh 7b. KSH 530M FOR CLEARING BUSHES ?

Yet Agriculture Cs claimed Kenya has sufficient food fot her netizens.

What of the farmers, where will they take the harvest?
Is this something you should be proudly tweeting about? A government that cannot feed its own people is worse than a dead beat father whose mission was coitus and takes zero financial obligations when it comes to caring for his family.

Gladly receiving?!!! Yet Gulana project was an answer to this. This is shame to Min.of Irrigation and Agriculture. Lack of adaptive approaches to sustainability and combating #Hunger

You cant be glad and sming while receiving a donstion while your ministry is s recipient of enormous budget allocations that are siphoned through phony and cocky channels! Cry for your country for once not smiling
— Hon.CPA NYACHOTI SAMBU (@fredsambu) August 29, 2019
This is shameful! We have enough food in the country now so why not buy from local farmers rather than recieve donations whose quality may not be guaranteed. The elected leaders in Northern kenya should come up with a reliable resilience strategy for food security.
