In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Jodie Turner-Smith’s better half, Joshua Jackson, revealed he did not have to take the knee to ask for her hand in marriage as the British-Jamaican actress made the unorthodox move to propose to him.
The 43-year-old actor spoke about the memorable moment and the events leading up to it when Fallon asked him if he always had it on the back of his mind that they were “destined” to eventually become husband and wife, PEOPLE reported.
“I knew the moment she asked me,” the Americano actor said.
“She asked me, yeah, on New Year’s Eve,” he added. “We were in Nicaragua. It was very beautiful, incredibly romantic. We were walking down the beach, and she asked me to marry her.”
Asked if the Anne Boleyn actress had actually planned the proposal, Jackson said there was some sort of a “preamble.” “There was a lead-up to it,” he revealed. “I did not know [about the proposal], but she was quite adamant, and she was right. This is the best choice I ever made.”
Joshua and Turner-Smith started dating in 2018 and ultimately got married the following year. The couple share a one-year-old daughter together. And also during the interview, Jackson opened up about fatherhood, saying it is “pretty excellent.”
Asked if he has several photos of baby Janie on his phone, Jackson answered in the affirmative, saying he is “100% that dad.” “I think there are whole server farms dedicated to just pictures of my baby now,” he added. “… It’s amazing how many pictures you can take of one baby.”
Jackson also gushed over the cuteness of their daughter, saying, “I know all parents think their kids are super cute, but my kid is like, really super cute.”
