Da Brat and her wife, Jessica ‘Judy’ Dupart, revealed that they received death threats after they decided to pick a White sperm donor to get pregnant. Their son, True Legend, is now 2 years old.
Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris-Dupart, and Jessica ‘Judy’ Dupart tied the knot in 2022, Complex reported. The couple previously starred on their reality television show, Brat Loves Judy, and documented their in vitro fertilization treatment on it. But in an episode in 2023, Da Brat disclosed that they had opted not to pick the sole Black sperm donor among 300 candidates. The Funkdafied rapper also explained the reason behind their decision.
“That [dude] looked like Jiminy Cricket,” Da Brat said. “I was like, ‘I’m sorry but that wasn’t gonna be my choice.’ … But I think we did a great job with picking. He’s handsome, he’s tall and I think he’s going to look beautiful with my wife’s egg.”
Besides being condemned for that comment, Da Brat and Dupart were also accused of being colorists for picking a White sperm donor. But the couple, in a recent interview with Chicago radio station 1075 WGCI, denied those allegations. They explained that there were no Black people available.
“First of all, it’s my egg,” Dupart said. “So, you have to do genetic testing where they say all of the things that you carry, you put it in the system, and then they tell you who you’re compatible with. As soon as we put in my seven things, we had no Black people available.”

Dupart also explained that they were left with no choice when it came to picking a donor, adding that couples who find themselves in cases of such nature end up making “hard decisions,” per Complex. Dupart, on a lighter note, also said Da Brat felt that the candidates at their disposal weren’t “good enough.”
Da Brat said that what she said about the Black sperm donor was blown out of proportion. She, however, said she was still of the view that the donor did not look attractive.
“Because the options were so narrow and that’s not what we wanted,” she added.
Da Brat also disclosed that people sent her and Dupart threats that had to do with taking their son’s life.
“I had to stop reading, I had to stop looking at it,” she said. “I’m from Chicago. I will pull up.”
