Authorities in Florida have arrested three teens in connection with the gruesome murder of their classmate. According to NBC News, police said the suspects – two girls aged 16 and 17, and a 17-year-old boy – conspired to kill their classmate, Dwight “DJ” Grant.
The body of the deceased 18-year-old high school student was found on October 19. That was two days after he went missing. And police also said his body was located in bushes near his home.
Per the arrest affidavit, the three teens allegedly plotted to lure Grant out of his home in order to kill him. The accused 17-year-old boy allegedly assaulted Grant and stabbed him with a knife and a sword while one of the girls restrained the deceased teen. The other girl was on the lookout during the attack.
After the killing, the three unnamed suspects allegedly got rid of the murder weapons and wiped out evidence. The affidavit stated that surveillance footage captured the three teens leaving a location before heading to their deceased classmate’s residence. They then managed to get Grant out of his home before heading to an outdoor stairwell where he was subsequently beaten and stabbed.
Police said the 17-year-old boy had texted his 17-year-old girlfriend to tell her Grant’s “murder was coming soon.” The girl was said to have “jokingly” replied saying she was available to help, NBC News reported.
Police also said Grant was killed because the 17-year-old boy took issue with the deceased teen sleeping with an unnamed girl he had an “emotional connection” with. This was revealed in text messages the teens had exchanged.
“May our forever Patriot Rest In Peace,” Miramar High School Principal Loli Formoso shared on Twitter. “Please pray for Dwight Grant’s family, friends and our community. I spoke with Ms. Grant to offer our condolences on behalf of the Patriot family. We will have grief counselors available on Thursday & Friday. We are here for you.”
The three teens have since been charged with first-degree murder, evidence tampering and criminal conspiracy.
