Poem: I Have a Song

African Girl

African Girl

I have a song I love to sing
Since I am born a girl
Of the freedom of womanhood
Since I am born a girl
Bring me the flute
So I can blow the whistles
Of the old tunes away
The old tunes that sing
Subjugation of women
Since I am born a girl

I have a song I love to sing
Since I am born a girl
Of the freedom of womanhood
Since I am born a girl
Bring me the violin
So I can play a classy song
To soothe every woman
For our liberation is near
A triumphant shout for
Our freedom I sing
Since I am born a girl
