Whoopi Goldberg isn’t staying quiet after Donald Trump labeled her and her fellow “The View” co-hosts “dumb.”
At a campaign rally in Reading, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, the former president referred to “The View” panelists as “really dumb people.” He also recalled hiring Goldberg for a comedy event at one of his casinos, claiming that her “mouth was so foul” and her set was “filthy, dirty,” and “disgusting.” Trump further alleged that Goldberg once encouraged him to run for president.
Trump’s remarks came after the show’s interview with Kamala Harris on Tuesday, which apparently displeased him.
In response, “The View” hosts made a statement during Thursday’s episode, walking out to Christina Aguilera’s song “Dirrty,” taking a swipe at the Republican leader who has long been a critic of the show.
“So, we walked out to ‘Dirrty’ by Christina Aguilera because it’s one of the words You-Know-Who used when he was talking about me, specifically, but he was talking about all of us at his rally,” Goldberg said, referring to Trump, whom she regularly calls “You-Know-Who” instead of using his name.
Despite Trump’s comments, the 68-year-old TV personality noted that he had hired her multiple times.
“I was filthy, and I stand by that. I’ve always been filthy, and you knew that when you hired me,” Goldberg stated. “I headlined at your casino, and I might’ve kept playing there had you not run it into the ground. How dumb are you? You hired me four times.”
She continued: “You didn’t know what you were getting? How dumb are you?”
Sunny Hostin, “The View” co-host and legal expert, joined in by mockingly thanking Trump.
“Donald Trump, I want to thank you for telling so many lies and committing so many alleged crimes, giving us material daily. You help us do our jobs, and I’m so appreciative,” Hostin joked, before inviting Trump on the show, saying she’d “even give you a mug, not to be confused with a mugshot.”
Hostin’s comments referenced the 34 felony counts Trump faces in New York courts. Alyssa Farah Griffin, the show’s lone conservative co-host and former Trump White House communications director, also took a jab at her former boss.
“He called you a loser, but I’d point out that you’re an EGOT, and he lost the last election and can’t admit it,” Griffin said, adding that Trump is “triggered by women.” Griffin left the Trump White House after January 6, citing his false claims about the 2020 election being stolen.
