Jahazeil Myrie, the third eldest son of Jamaican reggae and dancehall legend Buju Banton, is now a born-again Christian after he was baptized at the Meadowbrook Church of Christ on October 20.
In an interview with Loop News, Myrie, who is also a musician, touched on why he decided to become a Christian. “Mi did go through some personal stuff; spiritual warfare is real. I’ve been battling with it for close to five years, so I had to make a change,” Jahazeil said.
Jahazeil’s music is said to typically contain conscious and uplifting content. He told the news outlet that his decision to give his life to God will not have an impact on the kind of music he creates.

“This won’t affect my music in any way. I am already doing positive music. I will still do music because that’s been my calling,” said Jahazeil.
Jahazeil being baptized comes after he released a single titled, To My Rescue. He told the news outlet that the single “came about when I was going through my situation, it’s based on what I was going through. At the time I was calling out for help.”
In April, Face2Face Africa reported that one of Buju Banton’s sons, Miles Myrie, had passed away in the United States at the age of 20. His brother Jahazeil confirmed the news of his death in an interview with Observer Online.
“Yes it is true,” Jahazeil said. “It is not my thing to say, it is not my job personally to give out any personal information about Miles, my father is the one who should share any details, but Miles is an hortical yute, his soul was clean, so I had to say something.”
Jahazeil, however, did not reveal his brother’s cause of death or if he succumbed to an illness. “We grow up together one ah the time dem, and he always would motivate me to never give up,” he said about his deceased brother.
“He was a very motivational person no matter wah. When he was younger, he wanted to be a judge but as he got older, he got to love the rapping so he wanted to be a rapper.”
