Sumiriya Morton had a rare opportunity to become a witness at a courthouse wedding by a couple she had never met. Shortly afterward, Morton shared on TikTok the video of the event she captured, stating “good deed for the day I guess .”
However, she was surprised to see that the video was becoming more and more popular.
She and her sister were waiting for her sibling’s case to be heard at the courthouse when it all occurred.

A man in a groom’s suit came up to the 25-year-old as she was leaving the room to go to the restroom. He said that he needed two witnesses for his wedding and asked if she would be one of them.
Morton agreed right away. She went so far as to offer to bring her sister and her girlfriend to join them.
The Wilson, N.C., native told People, “I didn’t really have a reaction. I just said, ‘Yes, sure, why not?’ I think it was just a random pick because I was walking down the hall at the same time he was.”
Morton, her sister, and her girlfriend then followed the bride and groom into the courtroom to witness the vows being exchanged.
She recounted that, “It was a pretty fast process.” She made the video since she thought they’d want memories of the event.
“They didn’t ask me to record, but once I let them know, the bride was super happy and grateful.”
When they said “I do,” Morton and her sister congratulated the newlyweds and gave them hugs.
They were unable to exchange any more information since she and her sister had to run back to the courthouse to attend to her sister’s case.
The video has received 12,300 comments and over 6.5 million views since then.
“Normalize random acts of humanity like this!!” one user replied.
“Them asking a stranger makes me feel like they probably didn’t have anyone else to be there for them, which makes this 1,000 times sweeter,” another wrote.
Morton said of the comments, “It was a lot of mixed emotions and feelings about the comments because some people were very negative, but the positive outweighed the negative, and there was so much love.
“One comment that stuck with me was, ‘I hope your pillow is always the temperature you want, I hope your chargers never break, I hope you never run out of gas, and I hope you have a joyful life and marriage.’ “
