Kenyans in New Jersey, U.S. are in shock over the death of couple, Henry and Lydia Okong’o, who were found in their home on Monday morning.
The two were found with gunshot wounds in separate rooms of their country village home on Monday morning.
Reports suggest that authorities in Jersey City, New Jersey, are investigating a murder-suicide. It is unclear who is responsible for the deadly gunfire and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has not released any information on their investigations.
Neighbors React
Neighbors say that the Okong’os were a “lovely people” who kept their home well.
But many who knew the couple suspect that the deaths could have been as a result of domestic violence. They believe Mr Okong’o might have shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.
“Most of us who knew the couple very well know that they have had a tough marriage,” Dr George Omburo, an SDA church elder said.
“They quarrelled a lot and they would separate for long periods only to come together again.” Dr Omburo said neighbors reported to have heard a quarrelling from the house on Sunday night.
The couple left behind two children – a two-month-old and a five-year-old. They are believed to have been inside the home when the gunfire erupted. Lydiah was a nurse and Okongo owned a few laundromats.
