As the world joins hands to celebrate Nobel Prize winners, we are called to share the powerful contributions of Black women to the development and advancement of society. In addition to honoring the work and often thankless labor of Black women, past and present, and all around the world, we highlight the work of Black women who have amplified the work and voices of us all.

Meet the only four Black women ever in history to be awarded the Nobel Prize. Since its inception in 1901, the Prize has been awarded to 881 people, 15 or 1.7% of whom are Black, and only four of whom are women. The Black women laureates have made astounding achievements in literature and peace. More importantly, their work has had a significant positive impact on the lives of Black women around the world.
