After coming out publicly in 2014 that he is gay, Kenyan author Binyavanga Wainaina has announced that he is getting married to his long-term partner early next year.
The 47-year-old author, who won the 2002 Caine Prize for African Writing for his short story Discovering Home disclosed his wedding announcement on Wednesday through social media.
I knelt down and asked my love for his hand in marriage two weeks ago. He said YES. We will be married in South Africa early next year. I am beside myself with excitement that he has agreed to spend the rest of his life with me.

Wouldn’t it be a great thing if Binyavanga Wainaina stopped these unnecessary and irrelevant sideshows about his love life and concentrated on writing one good novel or a proper collection of short stories?… https://t.co/lXYn2EEPos
