One of Kenya’s girls’ schools was shut down late Saturday after it was revealed that a student was raped in the school compound.
Parents had stormed the school to question how a stranger was able to access Nairobi’s Moi Girls school compound and sexually assault the student, and why the school management had done nothing about it.
According to a local news outlet, Daily Nation, the form two student was assaulted on Saturday on her way to the lavatory.
Nairobi Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Michael Muchiri confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.
“This is an active investigation. The school administration is cooperating with the police to establish the depth of the matter at hand. Detectives are following up on important leads,” he said.
Following the incident, Kenyans called for the resignation of the school principal Jael Mureithi.
It is clear that the Principal of Moi Girls high school Nairobi has questions to answer over the alleged rape incident. M.O.E should indict her like yesterday. Those are far too many grave mishaps in her school.

The school was also the scene of a fire in 2017 that resulted into the death of 10 students.
Parents arrived as early as 5 am on Sunday to pick their daughters, who are set to report back after a week.
The girls were protesting, chanting ‘haki yetu’ (our rights) as they waited for their parents to arrive.
