Fresh off releasing his first studio album Victory Lap, Eritrean-American rapper and entrepreneur Ermias Asghedom, best known by his stage name Nipsey Hussle visited Eritrea together with his brother and father. This was the 32-year-old’s first visit to the Horn of Africa nation in 14 years.
Born in the United States to an Eritrean immigrant father and an African-American mother, Nipsey Hussle grew up in Crenshaw, Los Angeles.
No such thing as a “normal” day in diplomacy. After a reception to bid farewell to my Saudi counterpart, my colleague and I chatted with artist & rapper @NlPSEYHUSSLE who traveled to #Eritrea with his dad and brother to visit family. From meeting President Isaias Afwerki to touring the capital city of Asmara as well as granting a series of interviews, we can definitely say he really felt at home and had a worthwhile experience! Going back to your African roots and retracing your heritage as a person of African descent is always very indispensable and enlightening. Just early this year, his compatriot Tiffany Haddish also visited Eritrea in what she described as a very memorable trip.
Below are some photos of Nipsey Hussle’s trip and a video interview he had with one of the local TV stations.
