Top notch U.S. talent agency snatches up legendary Nigerian actress after Netflix deal

by Elizabeth Ofosuah Johnson, 2:00pm October 13, 2018,

Just over a month after the announcement of her movie being bought by Netflix, iconic Nigerian actress and director, Genevieve Nnaji, is making headlines again with bigger news.

Nnaji has been signed on to Universal Talent Agency, one of the world’s largest and most successful talent agency with huge names such as DJ Khalid, Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie, just to mention a few.

The signing of the Nigerian actress comes as no surprise to many who believe that Nnaji is the right first to represent the African voice when it comes to movies from Africa by Africa.

It is believed that the successful director has been also signed on to work with top Hollywood film gurus to produce movies from Nigeria and Africa at large.

Nnaji was, in 2005, the first ever African actress to win the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Before then she was named a member of the Order of the Federal Republic for her contribution to the growth and development of the Nigerian movie scene.

Today, Nnaji, one of the top paid actresses in Nigeria and Africa, is very selective about the movies she stars in. Her movie, Lionheart which was bought by Netflix on September 7, 2018, is her first attempt at directing.

Nnaji was a child star in the popular series Ripples at just eight years old. At 19, she starred in her first adult movie Most Wanted and won the hearts of many Africans and most importantly the movie directors and producers.

Aside from her exceptional acting skills and professionalism, Nnaji rose to fame and between 2005 to 2009 to become one of Africa’s most sought-after actresses. Her beauty also landed her  modelling gigs as well as endorsements from top brands such as Lux beauty soap.

The successful actress, model and brands ambassador is also loved for her strive and struggle for success despite getting pregnant at the age of 17.  There are no scandals to her name despite being in the limelight for so many years.

With the Netflix and Universal Talent Agency deal, we wonder what Genevieve has in store for Nigerians and Africans before the year ends.
