Kenya’s Church Raid: Bullet Removed from Boy’s Brain

18-month-old boy survived a gunshot wound to the head after a deadly church raid in Mombasa, Kenya that left six people dead. The infant Satrin Osinya was shielded by his mother who was shot and the bullet passed through her body into Osinya’s head. Her self-sacrificing act saved her son’s life.

He underwent a three-hour surgery at the Kenyatta National Hospital in the capital, Nairobi where the bullet was removed two days later.

According to BBC, “The baby is fully awake and he is back to his old state,” said chief neurosurgeon Mwangi Gichuru.

The shooters entered the church and shot innocent bystanders. They escaped the scene before authorities arrived however the investigation is ongoing.

There have been other incidents of violence in Mombasa that has involved Islamist militants and other groups.
