With a population count at 86 million, the DRC has Africa’s second-largest population. In 2003 after the civil wars, security reforms began to be put in place to assimilate individual armed entities into national security institutions. In spite of their active force of over 134,000 personnel, the United Nations Stabilisation Mission is in the country to handle peace operations until the country’s own forces are fully ready to handle them.
